FinCoach is an app that helps you track your savings, income and expenses, and goals. This text explains in plain language which data is used and how.
In short
The savings, goals, income and expense information you enter is stored only on this device. FinCoach has no account system or database where this data is collected and stored.
Three optional features send part of your data over a secure connection to FinCoach's server, and from there to the AI provider OpenAI, in order to work: FinCoach Assistant (typed and voice), voice conversation, and Scan Receipt. If you do not use them, no data is sent for these purposes. Details are below.
We do not show ads, we do not track you across apps, and we do not sell your data.
What data we store
Account details: If you continue with a username, your username and a one-way hash of your password are stored on your device; your password is never stored as plain text. If you sign in with Apple, the identifier provided by Apple is stored on your device, along with your name and email address if you chose to share them.
Financial information: The savings you add (type, amount, and purchase price and notes if any), your income and expense entries (with the amount and unit if you entered them in foreign currency or gold/silver), your recurring payments, budget limits, goals, your monthly income if you entered it, and the item prices you add by scanning receipts.
Preferences and progress: App settings such as your notification settings, color theme, language and main currency choice, your streak, Savings Challenge and game progress, badges, and Premium status. The name shown on the Profile screen is the name Apple shared if you signed in with Apple, or the username you chose if you registered with a username.
App lock: If you wish, you can lock the app with a PIN and Face ID / Touch ID. Only a one-way hash of your PIN is kept in your device's secure storage. FinCoach cannot access your Face ID / Touch ID data; iOS performs the verification and tells the app only whether it succeeded or failed.
Home screen widget: The short summary shown in the widget (such as your daily spending allowance or streak) is shared between the app and the widget only on your device.
All of this data is kept in the app's storage on your device and is specific to your account.
FinCoach Assistant and voice conversation
FinCoach Assistant is optional; you turn it on by giving consent the first time you use it. When you ask a typed question, so that a reply can be produced, the first part of your name, your income and expense entries, your savings totals, your goals and the message you wrote are sent over a secure connection to FinCoach's AI tool server, and from there to OpenAI. Your email address, password, PIN and Apple identity are not sent.
Voice conversation: When you tap Talk, the app asks for microphone permission. If you allow it, your speech is captured on your device as a short audio recording; the recording ends when you stop speaking and is sent to the server to be converted to text, and from there to OpenAI's speech recognition service. The assistant's written reply is also sent to OpenAI's speech generation service so it can be read aloud, and the generated audio is returned to your device.
The microphone is used only while the voice screen is open and while you speak; it does not listen in the background. You can turn off microphone access at any time in iOS Settings; in that case only voice conversation stops working.
FinCoach does not store audio recordings or conversations on its server, does not use them for advertising, and does not process them for any purpose other than producing the reply. Audio and reply files exist on your device only as temporary files during processing and are not kept permanently; conversations are not kept permanently in the app either. OpenAI may temporarily process the data under its own privacy policy.
AI replies are for general information only; they may be wrong or incomplete and are not investment, tax or legal advice.
Receipt scanning
Scan Receipt is optional. We ask for camera permission to take a photo of a receipt and photos permission to choose one from your library; you can turn these permissions off at any time in iOS Settings.
When you scan a receipt, the photo is sent over a secure connection to FinCoach's server, and from there to OpenAI, so that the amount, merchant, category and item lines can be read. FinCoach does not store the photo; the result that is read (amount, merchant, category and item prices) is kept only as records on your device and is used for your item price history (My Personal Inflation). If a receipt contains personal information (for example, part of a card number), we recommend covering it before taking the photo.
Where your data is kept
Your data stays on the device where you installed the app. If you delete the app, or delete your account from the Profile screen, this data is deleted as well.
Because your data is not stored on a server and is not synced to other devices, we cannot restore it if you lose your device or delete the app. Your device backups (for example, an iCloud backup) may include this data according to Apple's own settings. You can export your data from the Profile screen and save a backup file wherever you like (for example, Files > iCloud Drive); you decide where that file is kept.
Third-party services we use
Apple: Sign in with Apple, subscription purchases through the App Store, and the app update check (the latest version information on the App Store is read from a public Apple service) are handled by Apple. FinCoach never has access to your payment details.
RevenueCat: We use RevenueCat to manage your Premium subscription status. To verify a purchase, RevenueCat processes purchase information together with an anonymous app user ID. Your financial data (savings, goals) is not sent to RevenueCat.
Supabase (server): Requests for FinCoach Assistant, voice conversation and Scan Receipt pass through a Supabase server function that belongs to FinCoach. To apply daily and monthly usage limits and to verify Premium status, this function temporarily holds an anonymous ID (RevenueCat's anonymous user ID, or a random ID created on your device when RevenueCat is unavailable) and a usage count. This ID does not link you to your name or email.
OpenAI (AI provider): The typed and voice assistant and receipt reading are processed by OpenAI's services within the scope described above. OpenAI processes data under its own privacy policy and contract terms.
Market data: To show gold and currency prices, we fetch data from a publicly available price source. As with any internet request, your IP address and your device's technical information may be seen by that service during the request; your savings and personal information are not included in the request.
Notifications
FinCoach schedules motivation, streak, daily coach, budget limit and payment reminder notifications locally on your device; no server is used for this. Notifications and some in-app windows (such as Premium and rating reminders) may come with short custom sound effects; these sounds are inside the app and collect no data. The rating reminder is shown at most once per app launch. You can turn notifications off at any time from the Profile screen or iOS Settings.
Your rights over your data
You can get a copy of your data from the export and backup sections of the Profile screen, and you can permanently delete your account and all data on the device from Profile > Delete account. You can edit your data on the relevant screens.
You can choose not to use the AI and receipt scanning features; as long as you do not use them, no data is sent for them. Because requests sent to the server are not stored permanently, there is no separate record of those requests that we could delete. You can send your questions about this to the contact address below.
Age limit
FinCoach is intended for users aged 18 and over. It is not directed at people under 18 and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you are under 18, you should not use the app.
Changes
We may update this policy. When there is a significant change, the current text is published in the app and the date above changes.
